Missing the mark

Third of 10 in the "Kris Kobach is wrong 10 ways from Sunday" Series

The third attack on Dennis Moore in Kobach's new lit piece involves missile defense. Kobach's piece says:

"Moore voted against the ballistic missile defense system that will protect us from nuclear attack."

Yes, it "will" protect us from a nuclear attack...20 percent of the time.

As long as the attack isn't from a suitcase nuke.

Or a bomb in an uninspected shipping container.

Of course, it would be much easier and cost-effective to try and secure all of Russia's loose nukes. And it would be much easier and cost-effective to inspect more than the current fraction of shipping containers that arrive in the United States.

But Kris Kobach would rather spend billions and billions on a missile defense system that may never offer more than a 50-50 chance of downing a missile.

So, as long as Osama bin Laden prefers to send his nukes with a return address, we'll be able to shoot that missile down...possibly...if we're lucky.

We feel better already.
