It is a truck like no other. It moves silently. It can't be traced. It can't be stopped. And it's coming...to give you political literature. And maybe register you to vote.
The next summer blockbuster? Nope, it is just Kris Kobach's magical mystery mobile campaign headquarters.
Team Kobach is very proud of its mobile HQ. So proud, in fact, that apparently it forgot to list any expenses for rental or purchase of the truck on its FEC reports.
The only expense related to the Kobach mobile campaign headquarters appearing on any of Kobach's FEC reports comes on 3/8/04 when Kobach paid Signs Now $3,710.36 for "Full color graphics on sides of truck."
That's it. No rental fees. No purchase fees. Not even any fuel fees. Kobach's truck apparently moves without fees, fuel or regard for federal election laws regulating campaign expenditures.
If the Kobach campaign has been given the truck, for a month or forever, it should be listed as an in-kind donation. If it is paying for the truck, it should be listed as a disbursement.
Yet it is truly a stealth truck, at least in the eyes of the Federal Election Commission.
This isn't the only questionable activity that comes out during a review of Kobach's FEC reports, but it is one that we didn't notice ourselves. Big ups to TK for the tip on this one.
We'll have more from TK in this week's Fan Mail Friday. Respect.
