inSecurity

Kris Kobach continued to hammer away on security at an event in Kansas City Friday, reports Kit Wagar of The Kansas City Star.

Kris Kobach, the Republican candidate for Kansas' 3rd District congressional seat, said federal law needed to be changed to allow the government to deport foreigners more easily.

Current law is too lax to combat terrorism, he said.

“If you are a member of a terrorist organization, we can't deport you if you haven't committed any crimes and you haven't overstayed your visa,” Kobach said.

This is probably a surprise to Sajjad Nasser, who the Associated Press reports was deported after an "immigration judge ruled in June that Nasser’s participation provided material support for a terrorist organization, making him subject to deportation."

Besides, wouldn't you want to hold a suspected terrorist, rather than just deporting -- releasing -- them back to their home country?

It would also be a surprise to the two American citizens who are being held in military brigs without trial after being declared "enemy combatants" by presidential decree.

But making the government come up with a crime to charge someone with before that person can be deported isn't Kobach's only worry.

No, an even scarier threat exists:
[Kobach] also advocated funding another attempt at a space-based missile-defense system to protect the nation from terrorist groups that might obtain an intercontinental missile.

Yes, because taking control of -- or building -- an ICBM is the easiest way terrorists could attack the United States. And because there aren't any easier ways to prevent "loose nukes" from being a threat.

We're seriously starting to think Kobach believes Osama bin Forgotten is building a Death Star. Either that or he's seen Crimson Tide one too many times.
