A lawyer, Cheney and money

VP Dick Cheney was in town today and for the low-low price of $2,000, you could get your picture taken with him.

But like Speaker Dennis Hastert before him, Cheney still wasn't completely on message with his off-the-shelf speech about Kris Kobach.

According to Brad Cooper of the Kansas City Star, Cheney talked about medical malpractice reform, saying: "We need Kris in Congress to help end lawsuit abuse. We know that it's a lot easier for America's businesses to hire more workers if they don't have to keep hiring lawyers."

This of course runs contrary to Kris Kobach's profession of training more lawyers, contrary to Kobach's belief that more lawyers are needed in government, and contrary to the reality of the medical malpractice issue.

After Cheney, everyone had a good time listening to Kobach attack Moore on...the pressing need for space-based missile defense? (Yes, because the only way to stop the next 9/11 is with space-based lasers. Has bin Laden eluded capture long enough that he could now be building some sort of Death Star?)

Kobach also wants to post the National Guard on our borders...right after they get back from their mission defending Iraq's borders.

But you can rest assured, Kobach says he's "done the research" on Moore and "Moore does not like to come back to this district and talk about his votes."

And where was Congressman Dennis Moore while the fun was going on?

Back in his district, meeting with voters and with those who are really on the front lines of the war on terrorism.

John Hanna, AP:
"Christie Appelhanz, a spokeswoman for Moore, said that while Kobach was at his
fund-raising breakfast, Moore was addressing a conference of 250 local emergency services personnel in Kansas City, Kan."

And the Star says that before that, he was at Mr. D's Donut Shop in Shawnee, where voters could meet one of their elected representatives for -- get this -- free!

Dennis Moore: Man of the People. Kris Kobach: Man of La Mancha.
